In the novel,"Their Eyes were Watching God," by Zora Neale Hurston, a dilemma shook young Janie's life in the awkwardest of ways. Torn between, thoughts of true love and the reality of marriage, the decision consumed her mind. Lost in the meadows of childhood, Janie's surroundings begin to change as she enters the "coming of age" part of her life. The meadows fall as a path becomes clear and Janie takes her chance. Leaping towards,"flower dust" and "springtime (sprinklings)" Janie must mature and sharpen her eyes to find treasures that interest her, but life has many obstacles and in those obstacles hold illusions that trick the soul and disconnect the mind from the body. To push through those heartacheing, mind boggling tricks would have to be done by a matured, suffocated mind and to show for the pain is the product that is gained; love and happiness.

You oughta be glad, ‘cause dat makes uh big women outa you.” Or you can continue to squeeze every last drop from them, until you get a little taste of your own, a small fraction from the whole

In the movie before Patrick told Mary he is leaving her, Mary had announced the gender of the baby to Patrick and he doesn't react. When Mary asked if he wants dinner he doesn't refuse, unlike in the story.
