Witnesses Their Eyes were watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, It is a novel about a young lady named Janie and her experiences of love. Janie is a beautiful woman, who dreams and tries to find her true love since she was young. She wishes she would have a lovely marriage and a perfect lover, but unfortunately, life does not goes the way she wants. When she becomes an adult, she has to marry a guy who she does not love. Her love life and her dreams starts to be ruined. She has to face many obstacles to achieve her dreams. Janie compare her dreams with a blossoming pear tree and it does significant in the novel. She witnesses the bee pollinating the blossoming pear and describes as a sexual interaction. She imagining the bee as a guy who will give love and sweetness to her. As she says, “ She saw a dust-bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the thousand sister-calyxes arch to meet the love embrace and the ecstatic shiver of the tree from root to tiniest branch creaming in every blossom and frothing with delight. So this was s marriage! She had been summoned to behold a revelation. Then Janie felt a pain remorseless sweet that left her limp and languid” (Hurston 11). She holds onto her dream of being in the relationship like the bee and the blossoming pear. Her first struggles is that her grandmother forces her to married with Logan just because of his wealth and properties, not because Janie loves him and her dreams about marriage was ruined. She tries to starts her new life with Joe Starks, and she thinks she loves him but the truth is she does not loves him, she has conflict with him, her love life begins to fall apart. As the narrator says, “Sometimes she stuck out into the future, imaging her life different from what it was. But mostly she lived between her hat and her heels, with her emotional disturbances like shad patterns in the woods—come and gone with the sun. She got nothing from Jody except what money could buy, and she was giving away what she didn’t value” (Hurston 76). The whole journey of her life, she struggles continuously with the marriage and marriage that follow by failure and failure , she never achieve her dream, but she believes that Tea cake is the bee for her, the guy that is her true love. It takes two prior husbands to get to achieve her pear tree. We can see how she truly loves Tea cake unlike the others two, even Tea cake diagnosed with the Rabies, but she still love him
