For example, she didn’t really love logan. She was forced into that relationship by her nanny. Hurston explains “Finally out of Nanny’s talk and her own conjectures she made a sort of comfort for herself. Yes, she would love Logan after they were married.”(Hurston 21). This quote explains that she had no choice but to love Logan after they was married. Joe is different because she wasn’t forced into the relationship with him, but she still didn’t love him either. The author points out “Then she starched and ironed her face, forming it into just what people wanted to see, and opened up the window and cried, ‘Come heah people! Jody is dead. Mah husband is gone from me.’ (Hurston 87). This is explaining that she fixed her face to what the people wanted to see, but that isn’t how she felt. Tea cake is also different because she actually loved him. Hurston responds “The day of the gun, and the bloody body, and the court- house came and commenced to sing a sobbing sigh out of every corner in the room...
