1.Because of the Earths daily rotation it causes the sun to appear to rise in the east and set in the west so it creates a day and night so the moon relies on the sun to set and rise during a certain time in the hemisphere 2.The seasons result from the 23.5-degree tilt of the Earth's axis combined with its revolution around the sun 3.The Moon's and Sun's gravitational pulls on Earth are responsible for this natural phenomenon creating the tides. Tides occur because the Moon's gravity decreases with distance from the Moon. 4. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned directly between the Sun and the Moon and the Earth casts a shadow on Moon.…
Long ago, people believed that the Earth was the center of the universe, and that all the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies orbited around it. However, as pivotal discoveries were made and new theories emerged, society gained a much more insightful understanding of the cosmos above. In the second century, an astronomer by the name of Claudius Ptolemy proposed his geocentric model of the solar system, which depicted Earth in the center of the universe and the planets and the Sun orbiting in concentric circles around it. There were problems with this model, however, and years later an astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus proposed another model which showed the Sun at the center.…
With many religions and beliefs, comes a variety of creation stories. Through stories mankind has learned all kinds of lessons as well as where they came from, and these two creation stories are no exception. The similarities and differences between the Iroquois and Judeo-Christian creation stories are uncanny. Genesis 1-4 describes how God made the Earth in technically six days, since he took the seventh day off and made it holy; as well as several unfortunate events that took place involving Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel. The creation story perfectly demonstrates their belief in the concept of sin.…
Were the Moon Landings real or faked? Were the “Moon Landings” real or were they fictional? Let’s find out, this issue is creating controversy between many Americans nowadays. I’m talking about the “Moon Landings” of 1969, you know that day when all the Americans turned on their televisions to watch this amazing accomplishment. These so called “Moon Landings” were during the time of the Vietnam War.…
On July 16, 1969, a very special mission put on by NASA was launched. It was on this day that three soon to be famous astronauts would make their marks in the history books. On July 16, 1969 , Apollo 11 was launched. The spacecraft carried Commander Neil A. Armstrong , Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” E. Aldrin, Jr. Two of the three would soon go on to do something that no other human had ever done, they would walk on the moon. These American’s manning Apollo 11 impacted people everywhere by, teaching more about science, inspiring future space exploration, boosting American pride, and proving to humans that anything is possible.…
I had always been fascinated by modern mysteries and conspiracy theories, but before this class, I had no clue what to accept and how to analyze the information that I was presented to me. I chose the topic of the Moon Landing, because it enabled me to take a second look at the conspiracy theory through a new lens of experience. To understand where this idea of a hoax originates, we need to understand what was going on before the Apollo 11 moon landing. Starting in the 1950s, America was in a cold war with Soviet Russia, which was less of a physical battle and more of a challenge of who had a better structured government. It was a challenge of superiority that eventually led to the space race in 1955.…
There are many unique contrasts between Jovian and Terrestrial Planets. Firstly, Jovian Planets are visibly bigger than the Terrestrial Planets, which, are notably smaller. The reason, a Jovian Planet is bigger than a terrestrial planet due to its closeness to the sun as well as its chemical composition. Secondly, A Jovian Planet has rings while a Terrestrial Planet has none.…
The influence of the past creates a continuity of attitudes and behaviors. When “everything… exploded”(128), referring to when Naomi’s family breaks in two due to the orders of the Canadian Officials, the family resigns rather than fight. As merely children, Naomi and her brother Stephen have no choice but to follow the decisions of their caretakers. Their coming of age during a time of crisis reveals differing methods of managing their outcast status through out their transition from innocent youth to disillusionment and resignation of reality. Since the novel primarily views the internments through Naomi, her observations as a young child are plain and honest.…
When somebody says the world “alien” what do you think of? Do you think of something foreign such as an illegal alien, someone who has entered a country or land without permission from the governing body? Or do you think of an extra-terrestrial being, such as an intelligent lifeform from space? As of right now, the only aliens we know about, are ourselves. We have set foot on the Moon, and we’ve sent probes to almost every planet in our system.…
At the very beginning, all the scientists decided, after analyzing some data from researches, that the moon was dry. Years later, they got to the conclusion that there was a presence of water, just that they didn’t know what its origin was. Looking for a cause, they thought it was the falling comets that left some of their carrying water in the Earth’s satellite, based on pictures taken. Nowadays, with the development of new technology and better resources to gather information in the Moon, they understood what could be an unknown reason, which can actually affected the existence of water there. The investigators are claiming that the water that is reserved in the Moon, is a result of asteroids that like deliverers, fell there and left traces…
Our history is full of events that played roles in changing our point of view about the world that we live on. One of those events was the Moon landing in 1969. It was a huge advancement in technology. Everyone was amazed when they know that humans were able to go to the moon and land on it. It was one of the United States greatest accomplishment because for the first time human were able to step onto the Moon.…
The first human landing on the moon in 1969 was a great accomplishment for America and a huge disappointment for the USSR. But, what if it never happened what if the USA faked the whole thing? Just to win the Space Race? Would America really reside to being that naive just to win a race to the moon? Maybe, if they did they would have to do really good job of hiding the evidence showing that is was just filmed.…
One painting that really caught my eye is the painting Jupiter and Thetis by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (Getlein, 2016). This painting was inspired from Homer’s Iliad, “The Greek epic of the Trojan War (Getlein, 2016).” Without knowing what it really means you can tell more or less what is happening based off of the artists creativity. From first sight, you can see A man sitting in a throne which depicts royalty.…
In the late 1950’s the United States was in the middle of an arms and intelligence race with the Soviet Union. Part of this intelligence race was over who had supremacy in space. The Soviet Union was the front-runner in 1957 when they launched the first man made satellite into space that orbited the Earth (Miller 16). The following year Kim Mcquaid says NASA was created to develop the United States’ non-military space effort (Mcquaid). On May 25, 1961 President John F. Kennedy set a goal for the program: “perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth” (Loff).…
The Search For Life on Other Planets/Moons For years and years scientists have had mars in their crosshairs when discussing life on other planets within our solar system. Now say we discover that mars is completely lifeless in every way possible. Is there any other possibility of life in our solar system? The answer to that question is in the moons of Jupiter.…
