For the first time I really started to challenge myself. I was taking two advanced placement classes as well as another college credit class. The course load was much more rigorous and took a lot of getting used. At the beginning of the year I wanted to give up I thought I wasn’t prepared to handle this type of work but I soon realized…
My mother first introduced me to the idea of Wagner, raving about its theatre program, arguing I was a perfect fit. Growing up less than an hour from Boston, I slightly tasted city life throughout my childhood; yet always wanted to be a part of something bigger than a middle class town. Wagner’s location blends NYC life with my hometown environment, appealing to both sides of my personality. Further influenced my by mother’s review, I began researching Wagner’s website, where I discovered the Port Richmond Partnership. I grew up doing community service with my father at soccer fields on Saturday mornings, and I strive to combine volunteering with theatre.…
Theatre is my passion. Theatre is my life. I spend most of my time in our theatre, whether I am in school or out of school. I know a lot of things, but could learn even more through this program. I thank you for reading for my oddly strung together essay.…
My love for film and theater can’t be fed here because the resource are not here. I look around at these people who care about me and my education but I know the opportunities to move forward aren't here. Here I am, applying to your school. A school that I know will not only embrace me and give me that welcoming feel such as Westfield State University did but opportunities. Your institution will allow me to become engulfed in opportunities towards my passion such as film and theater.…
This play will be put on a stage. This will not be a completely normal stage, it will be on a thrust type stage. I like this kind of state, because it is interesting and not a boring normal stage where the audience just site right in front of the stage. There will be a curtain in between each act/scene, to allow out backstage members to change the background of the scene. I think that this stage type will be perfect audience.…
When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. To me, home is theatre. Those who know me well will attest that the change in me throughout this experience is drastic. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Thoughts and ideas flooded my mind as I stepped into the off-green colored cafeteria.…
Growing up as a child, I always dreamed of becoming an actor. In high school, I started my journey by taking drama classes. Not long after, I become passionate about drama and eventually joined Players, a fast-paced drama program which involves daily rehearsals and performances. This activity boosted my self-confidence and provided me with a basis for future endeavours in drama. Working closely with the cast members as a team, I learned that creativity and commitment result in a successful drama play.…
No matter how many times I get told that, I still don’t believe it. I feel that there is so much more growth in my acting capabilities. My junior year in theatre has been the most memorable thus far. We advanced all the way to Regionals for UIL One Act Play; where we were two schools behind making State. That moment was upsetting; however, I realized that there was so much more I could have done to be better.…
Again, I only auditioned because my friends were auditioning; Drama Club meant nothing to me. However, as my teenage mind deemed anything was better than going home to see my parents, I decided to stick around. While I did stick around Drama Club, I also experimented with different groups, such as Panther Paws, National Honors Society, and Panther Crew. However, as I reminisce on my short time spent at Derby High School, most of my memories involve the theatre department. In fact, I couldn’t imagine my high school experience, or my life, without the theatre community, for it has impacted my life in many ways.…
When I was little, I would sneak out to the ocean at night and watch the waves wash onto the shore. I would sit there for hours on the beach, absolutely convinced that if I could focus hard enough I could somehow disturb the tides and make the next oncoming wave crash down with an even greater force all around me. The monotony that came with the tide’s creeping pace never paled in comparison to the electric thrill that pulsed through me when something in the water changed. Eventually my desires for control over earthly forces were then channeled into a more achievable path–which was the theatre; where the intangible was made tangible.…
This particular study abroad program encompasses so much of the history and craft that goes into my major. As an artist of the theatre, I need to be aware of the historical significance of theatre and the stories that have been written. Seeing, reading, and visiting monuments and plays will make the history that I’ve learned in class tangible. Attending productions will further allow my creativity as an artist to flourish with diverse genres of theatre that will be available on the trip. Hopefully, I will be able to employ ideas and new techniques that I research when I arrive back at Furman and beyond.…
A cold morning of March 23, 2017, I was part of a group of students from social work of St. Augustine College, attending a theater performance. We were there among students and professors from other Universities. The purpose of this trip, was to observe the performance of a group of young men incarcerated at the Illinois Youth Center-Chicago. The performance’s name was “Nah, It Ain’t Easy.”…
I knew that I wanted to study musical theatre in college when I was apart of the acting ensemble my freshman year at the School of Arts and Enterprise; our theatre community loved musical theatre. We had a project called performance boards which is modeled after a college audition, I had to pick two contrasting monologues and two contrasting songs and perform my material in front of a panel. If we didn’t meet the work ethic and potential the panel was looking for then we got cut from the acting ensemble. I wasn’t one of the students that got cut. Through the project I learned that musical theatre was an art form I wanted to pursue.…
My goals are simple, to grow both as a person and a performer at University of Central Missouri. My entire high school career has been involved with the arts. My interest range from theater, music, dance and other aspects of the arts. In high school I have been involved in: drama team, musicals, choir, show choir, debate, A+ program, and Sophomore tutoring, just to name a few. The productions that I have been apart of include: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Guys and Dolls, Check Please, Canned Hamlet, Big Fish, and and Improv Show at Central High School.…
Now completing my senior year my passion has grown tremendously and my skill level has grown as well. I was so blessed to have an incredible acting teacher in highschool who has prepared me to continue acting through college. Over the years I have won Superiors at thespian festivals in monologues one acts and a short scene.…
