Evaluation The purpose of our presentation was to highlight and become familiar with all the creative and technical elements that contribute to a successful theatre production. As a constantly evolving art, our group got to create and develop the innovative creative process for portraying the story to the audience. While all of us had minimal to no experience with working in theatre, we each got a taste of what the different jobs are like working in this business. Although we each had an individual job, it became apparent that working together towards a shared common goal remained essential to the foundation of creating a fresh unique production.
My Role
As the director, it was not only my job to cast the production, but I also had to supervise and coordinate with all the other artists. I selected Jimmy Smits to play the wealthy artist Gabriel, and I chose Antonio Banderas as Tomas for “Paint the Town.” I decided that I wanted to emphasize the importance of family despite all the hardships we endure. Thus, demonstrating that at the end of the day family is the most constant support system. If I could change my approach to the production I would have probably casted Tomas as someone else.

We read the play initially and then collaborated in a group to share our thoughts and ideas to create the show. After sharing our ideas, we realized that each of us emphasized family so we trusted each other to follow through with rest of our jobs. Our group worked well on helping each other convey our ideas appropriately and effectively for the maximum effect of comprehension for the audience. If anyone was having trouble, we would all pitch in to help out. Although there was no feedback from the audience, we can only hope and assume that our direction of the production was effective and original. The audience was silent and respectable for the whole

On November 22nd , 2015 , I had attended a play “A servant of Two masters” that played downtown Pittsburgh at the O’Reilly theater, the play was directed by Ted Pappas. He had put together a creative and intriguing play, having actors stay spontaneous and interact with the audience, therefore no parts would be found boring nor dry. All the actors had held up their end of their roles quite well, by fully disguising themselves as that character they were suppose to be during the entire play. In the play “A Servant of Two masters” is about a girl Clarice who originally had an arranged marriage but was called off due to her fiancé death, who was Federigo Rasponi of Turin.…

At that time a cast member would come stand next to someone in the audience and read off a paper tablet like he just googles an answer. That little action would make the audience laugh and probably get their attention. Another thing I would take from this play is to have fun and enjoy what my work of art. You could tell they all enjoyed working together and had fun while performing. Even the people working the lights to the producers all had a smile on their face and you could tell they really…

For my final project, I chose to collaborate at the J-cat Cultural Arts Theater under the supervision of Michael Andron. The play that I collaborated on was called “Shrek the musical”. My initial duty in this play was to control the character’s microphones. However, due to low tech staffing, I was offered an open position in lighting, and even though I did not get the chance to be in the booth to control the microphones, I was able to see how both sound and lighting played an important role in this play. Ever since lighting rehearsals started, I was able to see how the lighting changes the mood of the scene and how each actor, when they were in the spotlight, had their own unique story to tell.…

Here's some good news - you don't ALWAYS have to read these works to become familiar with them. Check streaming websites to see options for watching productions (Netflix often has high end productions, whereas many amateur shows are uploaded to YouTube). You can also see video of Broadway productions on BroadwayHD (for a fee) and at the New York Public Library Theatre on Film and Tape Archive. There's also a wonderful book about the 1967-68 Broadway Theatrical Season written by William Goldman, The Season, that does an excellent job explaining some of the more mysterious tropes of Broadway. One should also be well-versed in particularly famous plays and musicals, as understanding important theatrical work informs much modern theatre.…

The World Goes Round at Theatre UCF was a spectacular conglomeration of musical performances that were brought to life through excellent acting and use of lighting. Throughout my years as a student I have seen a plethora of plays ranging from high school productions to off-off Broadway. Walking into this production I expected the same level of performance as in my local community college (with a slightly bigger budget). However, after the first song I knew that I was going to be proven wrong.…

The actors had a lot of energy that undoubtedly captured the viewer’s attention. Each actor had a certain characteristic that made him or her truly fascinating to watch. Over the centuries, theatre conventions evolved from the highly presentational performances of the Greeks to the extravagance of Elizabethan productions and eventually conglomerated to produce contemporary theatre. The University Playhouse’s performance of Acting: The First Six Lessons expressed this conglomeration of Greek and Elizabethan conventions through elements of presentational theatre, a non-localized set, and a supporting cast that functioned similar to a chorus or ensemble. This performance also altered conventions through the addition of female actors, use of representational aspects, adaption of the functions of the chorus or ensemble, and lack of a raised stage. In the following sections, I will discuss the adoption and adaptation…

After attending the performance of “Margo Vail”, I did not know what to think. From previously watching “Richard III” a couple of weeks ago, I felt that I would be better at following a University’s production of a play. However, I am not really sure what was going on in this play, which does not mean I did not like it, but I was in awe/confused most of the time. The reason why this production was so different because its not one of those classics like Shakespeare’s “Richard III” where you know what you are getting yourself into when you are an audience member.…
