Theatre Performance Evaluation Paper

Improved Essays
Introduction
The purpose behind this presentation for theatre appreciation is to evaluate and understand each step in producing a performance. From each point-of-view, the director to the marketing and each in between, we got the see how to breakdown a production before bringing it to life.

My Role
By choosing to do the role of director, I wanted to get a deeper view. Since this is what I intend to do one day for a career, I felt it was my style. Now, if I had the chance to do this again, I would definitely try to understand more how to visually represent the realism from this script onto the stage. I would also go deeper into my concept and add more to my analysis.

Challenges
The biggest challenge I found was deciding the difference between

I would say each member pulled their own weight and listened very well. Leia was a big help who also covered not only scenic design, but also the marketing. She was very reliable when it came to out of classroom questions and thoughts we had. On top of that, she accomplished getting both parts done and excellently. Bianca surprised me the most being that she only met us twice out of the three to four weeks we would meet up for a meeting to go over our stuff. She was sick with strep throat so it’s understandable why she wasn’t there. Her poster also had a well thought out plan to her part, the costuming. Michelle had a hard time understanding the lights. After Leia and I walked her through how the lights would be done if we were to put the play on a stage, she didn’t quite comprehend understanding why the lights were dim in the beginning or how to answer how the lights would transition. She did pull her own weight and courage through. She got the main points down on her poster which was enough. When we each presented, I felt the class could see what we were each representing and talking about. They seemed to understand what each poster meant and what we were trying to get …show more content…
I have no problem public speaking or putting myself out there- as long as I know what I’m talking about. To one day be a theatre director for high and eventually college, I can see where having presenting skills comes in handy. I will have to stand up in front of a room full of different people, and make my point come across clear and focused. Being not afraid to publicly speak is a big key to this. If I had the chance to do something like this project again, I have no clue what section I would pick. Each one is interesting to me so I would be happy either or. If I had to put right now, I would most likely say costuming, though. I feel that’s another way to tell the story all in its own world. The way to have the actors dress tells a lot about them and what’s going on, where’s the play is taking place and so much about the characters in general. It would be interesting to also analysis a script that doesn’t tell how the characters are dressed and figure it out on my own. To dress them how I see them and their backgrounds; like putting a blank puzzle

Guaranteed, if I had done this all by myself, this would have been a huge challenge for me, but working with Azad, Katy, Alex Hubbard, and Alex Harris made it easy for me to get my assignment done. They made things 100% go faster and smoother. I really appreciate all of their work. Alex Hubbard and Azad were my two actors for the script and they helped out because they listen to how I wanted their reactions and their tones to be based on how I interpret the script. Alex Harris, allowing us to use his personal lighting kits, he made it easy to maneuver those around.…

I love how the play and scenes were very simple. I would use a little music in my play and more human interaction and sounds. For example, I can record myself/someone knocking on a door and uses that sound in my play to represent the frog knocking on the castle door. I would make it more modern-day play, so my audience will not be bored. In Fanny’s Fantastic Food Frolic, they would make sure they had the audience attention by saying google it during the different scene.…

For my final project, I chose to collaborate at the J-cat Cultural Arts Theater under the supervision of Michael Andron. The play that I collaborated on was called “Shrek the musical”. My initial duty in this play was to control the character’s microphones. However, due to low tech staffing, I was offered an open position in lighting, and even though I did not get the chance to be in the booth to control the microphones, I was able to see how both sound and lighting played an important role in this play. Ever since lighting rehearsals started, I was able to see how the lighting changes the mood of the scene and how each actor, when they were in the spotlight, had their own unique story to tell.…

Being the director of “See How They Run” showed me the many characteristics a director must have in mind while thinking of how to present the play. One must have in mind the time and place the play is set in, the main focus and goal of the play, the themes and symbols that are present, and the different ways one can send all of those ideas and concepts to the audience. Summary See How They Run is situated at England in the 1940’s during WWII.…

As the actors spun the set design I became filled with anticipation for what was about to occur, but as the musical progressed my excitement toward the play dwindled. It was almost as if the initial spinning of the stage disoriented me and I was dizzy and confused for the rest of the night. Without the girls beside me explaining the play to each other during intermission I never would have known what was going on. The actors all performed wonderfully, but there were too many actors with unspoken problems to follow.…

Over the centuries, theatre conventions evolved from the highly presentational performances of the Greeks to the extravagance of Elizabethan productions and eventually conglomerated to produce contemporary theatre. The University Playhouse’s performance of Acting: The First Six Lessons expressed this conglomeration of Greek and Elizabethan conventions through elements of presentational theatre, a non-localized set, and a supporting cast that functioned similar to a chorus or ensemble. This performance also altered conventions through the addition of female actors, use of representational aspects, adaption of the functions of the chorus or ensemble, and lack of a raised stage. In the following sections, I will discuss the adoption and adaptation…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

To examine the evolution of stage management, we must first examine how the term came about, and other terms for the stage managers predecessors. Then we can begin to look into how the role has evolved over time into the present craft students are being taught on technical production courses in theatre in different locations around the world. To begin, we must investigate the term of ‘stage management’. As we look back into history, we can see that people who were what we know today as stage managers, did not have that title, however they performed a similar function in the theatre.…

We were impressed with your presentation, but in the end you were not chosen as our school's candidate for State Thespian Officer, I read repeatedly on my phone's screen, the pain of disappointment stinging each time. Through all my pain, tears, disappointment and frustration, all I could think about was how glad I was to be alone. If I wasn't, the shame of failure would mark me to everyone around me. Receiving the news alone allowed me to hide the dirty thing that is my own failure from everyone else as well as possible.…

Stage Management is a vital part of the theatre that keeps a production moving at a steady pace to reach a deadline with the best possible outcome. A stage manager needs a very flexible mind which can handle thinking ahead, has a healthy dose of OCD, can make quick meaningful decisions, can come up with solutions to problems; all while remaining calm, collected and, above all, sane. Through my past experiences in a management position as well as under the management of others I have picked up a few management techniques that help me edge closer to the ideal stage manager mindset. My position as Head of Sound at Gold Coast Central Life Development Centre requires a certain level of management skill and has taught me the most, in a practical…

As actors, we must come to the realization that we are not in a stable career field. With that being said, it is in our best interest to have a backup plan of other possibilities in the arts so that we do not find ourselves wailing in the idea that we went to college for nothing. I am studying theatre in the performance aspect, concentrating in acting. I am actually leaning more towards the entertainment field rather than the artistic field, which does not require any sort of theatre education on a collegiate level, however I am here because while I want to be a screen actress, I do love theatre and I need the education in case I fail in my hopes and dreams. If that unfortunate occurrence comes true, my “Plan B” is to either be a director or a playwright.…
