Studying specific texts in Literature such as ‘Hamlet’ and ‘Wuthering Heights’ has developed my skills in analysing and interpreting texts including character, a skill that has and will come in useful when performing from scripts. Some of these productions include ‘We will Rock You’, ‘Blood Brothers’, ‘Starlight Express’ and a Vintage Cabaret. This variety of productions has helped me to develop my characterisation skills and has also given me experience working with adult drama groups and of performing extremely different character roles. Being part of an adult drama group especially has matured me further; I can confidently say that I can work with all age groups. Younger drama groups have also given me the opportunity to take part in film work and tech practice. All of this will assist my transition to university in the study of characters from plays and prose of differing genres. My time management has also greatly improved, as I have to balance my studies with my hobbies and work experience. Playing characters has also helped me to empathise with characters in books and has assisted my analysis of texts at A-level.
I have taken up many responsibilities within education and outside. I have been a member of the school and college Orchestra and Jazz band for five years. I have performed in five music showcases and carol concerts, and am currently working towards Grade 5 clarinet. I am also learning to play the piano independently. This has allowed me to develop my passion for performance, which has given me the experience and confidence, a skill essential for studying
