Thea Bowman was born on December 29, 1937. Thea Bowman’s name at birth was Bertha Bowman. She was Methodist but converted to Catholic at the age of 9. Bowman was the first African-American woman to join the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. She is not a saint yet but should be. Thea Bowman died on March 30, 1990 of Cancer.
