Group Process and Content According to Gladding and Binkley (2007), group process consists of the “way in which information is handled” (p. 1). To elaborate, group process concerns all the actions and occurrences that take place during the duration of a group’s life. In contrast, content concerns the topics, facts and information group members will discuss during these particular sessions. Group members will handle and respond differently to the information presented during group. In the same way, group members should uphold the role of being fully open to the group process and experience. Initially, however, group member behavior is quite the opposite. The reality is that many members are more observant and reserved of the group process than the latter. Also, an uncertainty of the acceptance they will or will not receive is the behavior seen amongst group members. Consequently, it is the fear of judgment that causes members to feel that acceptance is conditional. Ultimately, these elements will hinder group members from sharing details about their lives. Group members will only exhibit a high degree of risk taking if they feel cohesion and trust in the environment. However, if a slight feeling of distrust piques, group members will self-disclose with their facade. Members will need to maintain their commitment because impasses will expose themselves.
