The start of Z-boys was in 1973 when Jeff Ho opened his surf shop in Venice beach California. The first Z-boy was Nathan Pratt when he was 14 years old. He was hired to work as a surfboard maker and the founder of the Z-boys. By 1974 the Z-boys had 5 members Allen Sarlo, Jay Adams, Tony Alva, Chris Cahill, and Stacy Peralta. They were known at that time to be a pack of ruff and rood surfers.
