Freedom what we all want, what we all strive for, and what we had paid our life before to get it.Women in the Victorian era, treated like an object with no love, what they strive for is freedom, and that was what they wanted.The author of The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Story of an Hour Kate Chopin’s stories tell of these things such as freedom.Thesis: Through the use of setting and symbolism, both Chopin and Gilman seek to show the oppression of women in the Victorian society affects women’s physical and mental health in order to demonstrate the needed for their independence.Both authors use their settings to show how women were not allowed to express themselves in Victorian society.In The Yellow Wallpaper the main character is placed in a house to make her feel free, but end up doing the opposite.In The Story of an Hour the main character had learned of her husband's death, but instead of feeling sad she is glad since without her husband she is free.Women in the Victorian Era are treated not the same, and those who are treated badly the thrive for freedom, same as these stories.
