The story “The Yellow Wallpaper,” by Charlotte Gilman, begins with an anonymous female narrator and her husband, John. Her husband is a physician. They rented a beautiful colonial lodge for the summer. The two couples felt lucky that they were able to spend time in the summer living in the beautiful lodge. She finds something extraordinary in the house, which it drives her crazy. The anonymous female’s husband, John, hopes that they can adjust their visions of the country setting and away from the city life. The wallpaper makes the narrator feel sick because there is some sort of pattern that will have something to do with the story. The narrator seems disoriented in her mind giving the reader the idea that she is somewhat unbalanced. Her style of a short sentence that moves from subject to subject is similar to the wallpaper pattern of curves that smothers themselves in some form of flaws. She was not able to control herself, so her husband John helped her to keep her under control by giving her medicine. She was not allowed to be writing in her journal or to have any company. She was supposed to rest all day so she can recover, she felt strange living in the mansion. John controled her too much and it made the narrator helpless. The yellow wall affected the narrator because it made her really sick. The wallpaper has some patterns that seem to mess her mind up leaving her confused. John is a physician and the narrator’s brother is physician as well. John does not know how much the narrator really suffered, he knows there is no reason to suffer and satisfy him.
