Personal Narrative: A Year Has Changed My Life

A year can change a person’s life one eighty degrees from being unambitious with no grind to a hard worker with dreams. A year can make a person who does not know what he wants in life to a person who wants to reach the top; panic to take a step forward, and doesn’t know how to solve problems; now, doesn’t fear stepping forward, doesn’t fear challenges, and uses wisdom to solve problems; this person is me. The year I attended Durham Tech changed my whole life in terms of my perspectives, beliefs, and goals. Now I am responsible person, not just for myself, but also for my family. Starting from the year I attended Durham Tech, I started realizing how my family have an enormous and a crucial financial problems that I was not aware of. I was extremely anxious about moving to the United States for many reasons. When a person gets used to doing something, it becomes harder to change, similarly with me getting used to not work hard or study, it eventually becomes very hard to change. As an Egyptian, I am used to settle in one place for a long time just like any other Egyptian, so it is very tough to move to another country especially the United States. The United States is very different than Egypt in many different aspects. The education in the United States is much different than Egypt in the way of teaching, the language, and the organization. So education was a big aspect in the life change, but more importantly was the culture. The culture in the US is much different than in Egypt, and people have a different mentality and traditions. Also, I was connected to the community in Egypt especially with my family, which was big.
