It was a frosty winter day in the city of Appleton while my family and I were keeping warm while shooting hoops at the local YMCA. In the gym, my family grew tired and bored of playing basketball while my dad played his very best with no ease to his four kids including myself.
After awhile my mom finally decided to take us down to the bouncy house that was hidden in the basement. Not many people knew about it. We found our way down the stairs to the basement of the YMCA, but then when we got down there we didn’t know where to go. After attempting to find an employee we gave up hope and decided to look by ourselves. We didn’t see an employee for quite some time, but we did manage to find a door with a staircase leading up.

There was nothing. Falling out into the road was a very large possibility.
“Mom, please call dad for help. I want to go home,” I said with tears running down my cheek. However, my moms phone was dead.
“Guys, stay calm. Everything will be alright.” I started to cry because I knew I was trapped above the YMCA entrance and could not go back in without jumping down which was one story high. A man that opened the door smiled at us and showed us back to the gym where my dad worked up a sweat. He still was trying his very best trying to swish the basketball in the net.
We told my dad the story about getting stuck, but he just chuckled. “Why are you laughing?” said my whole family. We were all scared and for my dad to laugh was making me and my family

This film impacted the way I evaluated my life. Considering all the hardships the people of Tooksook, Alaska endured: being treated horribly for embracing their culture, young children having to learn how to provide for their families at a young age, and traveling to places in rigorous conditions. Nevertheless, those struggles were forgotten when, the game of basketball was being played; it brought the whole community together as one. As a result: brothers, sisters, teachers, grandparents, parents, and all others from the community traveled many miles by sled even to witness their local team compete in the basketball tournament, the gym was packed. All the people were filled with despite their hardships, it showed me the game was greater than…
