Typhoid Fever Monologue

Have you ever read Romeo and Juliet? We read it when I was in the 9th grade, while it was complicated to understand the language in the story; it was a very good story. My English teacher was able to help me understand the language that William Shakespeare used. I was not the only person that struggled with the language in the story. In the story “Typhoid Fever” by Frank McCourt the characters are quarantined in a fever hospital ran by the Catholic Church. While in the hospital they recite lines from a Shakespeare poem to help pass the time. Even though the poem does not make any sense to either of them, they still read and memorize it. It was a way for them to deal with the long days of just laying in a hospital bed. William Shakespeare is one of the greatest play writers of all times however he kept his private life a mystery.
There are not any birth records on Shakespeare however church records suggest that he was baptized at the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford on April 26, 1564. With this information it is believed that he was born on April 23, 1564, this is the date that is acknowledge as Shakespeare’s birthday. Due to the lack of birth records there is little know of Shakespeare early years. Shakespeare wrote a total of 37 plays over his lifetime, these were considered to be histories, tragedies, tragicomedies and comedies. Even when scholars questioned how someone with such an modest education could write with the intellectual perceptiveness and poetic power that Shakespeare’s writings displayed, he is still consider the playwright.
