When one is in the process of writing a paper, it is easy to forget that one is writing to someone. Whether one thinks about it consciously or not, always write to an audience: sometimes an audience is a very generalized group of readers, sometimes one will know the audience, and sometimes one will write for themselves. Keeping the audience in mind while writing can help make good decisions about what material to include, how to organize ideas, and how best to support the argument. For example, instructors read and grade essays, and the writer wants to keep their needs and perspectives in mind when one writes. However, when writing an essay with only the instructor in mind, the writers ' ideas might not come across clearly because one assumes that the person grading it knows more than the writer and will fill in the gaps. This leaves it up to the instructor to decide what the writer is saying, and she might decide differently than one would expect. Diction or choice of words separates good writing from bad writing. It depends on several factors. Firstly, the word must be right and accurate. Secondly, words should be appropriate to the context in which they are used. Lastly, the choice of words should be such that the listener or readers understand easily. Besides, proper diction or proper choice of words is important to get the message across.
