The Writer's Workshop In High School

Did you ever think that English would be easy wherever you go? Unfortunately, that is what I thought even though I knew it would be a little challenging. As I got into college it all changed. Writer’s Workshop in College taught me the difference between what High School English and what college is like, particularly when it comes to the organization of the class, the class atmosphere and how the teacher manages a classroom. One way that writer’s workshop is different is the organization of the class. In High School my teacher went through a PowerPoint for each lesson we did every day while in college, we read out of a textbook for our lesson and show examples on the grammar and essays we do. High School English, within the first ten minutes of class we did a writing exercise where we write a topic that our teacher assigns us and we write for two minutes without stopping. At first I didn’t understand the point of it, but now I realize why my teacher made me do it. It was to help us get better at writing. College doesn’t do writing exercises or expect anything from the student. Plus, in High school English we never got homework, but in college we get worksheets on grammar. Additionally, we get tested on our grammar and quizzed on our readings in college. In addition, High School in writing workshop class we never took tests or quizzes, …show more content…
In High School the teacher wants you to be on time, have your homework out on your desk, be prepared to start for class, and ask questions if you don’t understand something. Furthermore, college teachers want you to be in class and especially being on time, and also have your assignments in on time. The main difference I have seen is how teachers run a classroom. For High School you have to be polite and well mannered, but in college they really don’t care if you swear or talk about things you
