Introduction and Event Summary The Wounded Warriors Project (WWP) is an important organization that helps wounded service men and women when they return to the United States to get services, support, and resources that they need that may go beyond what the government is willing or able to provide (“Wounded Warriors Project,” 2016). They provide support, financial assistance, assistance with work, and establishing businesses so that these true American heroes can be self-sufficient. The proposed event is a combination of a concert by local bands supported by food and entertainment from local businesses. All proceeds after the expenses have been covered will be forwarded to the Wounded Warrior project.

SWOT Analysis In order to assess the viability of any event, there must be an evaluation of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats which is frequently referred to as a SWOT analysis (Karadakis, Kaplanidou, & Karlis, 2010). Another event could be planned for the same weekend. Bands could be booked and not able to participate in the event. Also, restaurants may not be so willing to provide everything for free, so there may need to be some way to compensate them at least partially.
Leadership Assessment In order to pull this off, a situational form of leadership will be required. As McCleskey (2014) explains, situational leadership theory (SLT) evolved from a task-oriented approach rather than a people-oriented approach. In order to run this event effectively, it will be important for the leaders of the event to set clear roles for followers, give definite instructions, create clear patterns for organization, and establish formal communication. The success of this event will be determined by successfully leading the team who will execute the event.

On March 26th, I attended a concert at Sidewinder in Austin, Texas. The venue hosted three bands: The Sweethearts, Two Tens, and The Dollyrots. All three were female-fronted punk rock bands, but The Sweethearts were the only band that was local. The other two were on tour with each other. Over the course of this past summer I have had the opportunity to attend numerous live shows ranging from the traditional deep southern sounds of bluegrass, to the stylistic hard and raw sounds of rock and roll. Standing apart from all the rest, a new up and coming Indie Pop band, put on quite literally the greatest show I’ve ever seen. At that concert I experienced a feeling of true exhilaration. Nothing else can come close to the feeling right before they took stage, when the lights cut out, leaving everyone in absolute darkness and all you could hear was the manic roar of the awaiting crowd. The energetic opening acts; Cruisr and Joywave, both arising American Indie rock bands, certainly did their job of warming up the crowd for the main…
