Got himself wrapped into several predicaments with the Cyclops after he made several errors. But for every lapse in judgment on his part, Odysseus devises an equally ingenious plan to escape trouble. The first mistake is that after finding the cave of Polyphemus and stealing cattle and cheese, Odysseus insists upon waiting for the Cyclops to return even though his men warn him otherwise. They become trapped, but Odysseus does manage to trick the Cyclops and escape back to his ship. He makes another error, and taunts Polyphemus, causing the enraged Cyclops to throw a giant boulder at his ship.
