Relatable text posts and witty responses to your friends embellish your Twitter profile — showing the world how clever and comical you are. Your educational and occupational achievements fill your Facebook’s profile — showing your friends and family how successful you’ve become over the years. How connected are you with the world? Are you aware of current events? In 2015, many people, especially teenagers, do not find enjoyment in reading newspapers, looking through magazines, or watching the news. Therefore, in this era, teenagers and young adults stay informed about the world through social networks. As remarked by Parrack, “It isn’t just your inner circle of close friends and even closer family members that social networking sites allow you to communicate with easily and effectively, either. They open the world up to you” (Parrack, 2012). This is a benefit that most people don’t consider. In other words, Parrack suggests that instead of only reading about your best friend’s breakup with her boyfriend or what your neighbor cooked for dinner, you can learn about important things: your community and the world around you. Through sharing news stories onto timelines, hashtags, and trends, social media allows people to stay informed on politics, local news, and other worldwide events. For example, through social media, people can keep track of political debates, local charity events, or even who won an award at the VMAs. As times change, social networking sites are becoming some of the most important outlets when it comes to sharing and spreading news. Without these sites, people would not be as informed as they are
