Today’s world is surrounded by ever-changing technological advances. The way in which we utilize them includes; hobbies, recreational activities, career reasons and social reasons. In the passage presented in class we discussed how Paumgarten believed that the GoPro, such as other technologies, were truly taking away from personal experience and causing a strong sense of narcissism. Personally, I believe that, much like many of our technologies, these advances are a positive outcome of what we have and we truly use them to the best of our ability to showcase experiences, improve culture and so on.

Snapchat is truly where we can see amateur filmmaking in surplus. Snapchat is an application that consists of uploading pictures and videos. “SnapChat is an application… that enables users to take pictures and record videos then, if desired, add captions to them and send them to selected individuals.” (Techopedia) This innovation permits us to make these images public simply to our snapchat friends or go as far as anyone can see them. In a personal aspect, I utilize Snapchat to communicate with my friends that go to different universities all over the country. I show on my story what I am doing, who I am with and where I am. This allows my comrades to be caught up with my life and vice versa. I stay on the app to keep track of how my friends are and how they are living. Before, you would have needed to call someone to see what they have been up to and how they have been. This obviously though, can be seen as negative. Those who have the same point of view as Paumgarten would rebuttal that by having applications such as Snapchat, where we can simply watch a 30 second story of what someone is doing, informalizes relationships. This creates a sense of solidarity and lack of communication. With these technologies we seldom go out of our way to call up our loved ones and ask what they have done due to the fact, we already know. Of course in many ways these technologies here they aid us to go further than the experience. It allows us to take an audience out to the field of experience with us. However, it can always be argued that it takes away the interpersonal connections we used to engage
