Trade schools are an excellent idea for people who already have a clear idea in which path they want to pursue. According to Friedman, "The economy is producing the jobs both at the high end and the low end, but increasingly the high-end jobs are out of reach of many" (356). Friedman argues that the more we educate ourselves the less likely we are getting the job we choose. Jay Leviton Career and Technical Education Program in Renton states, “We tell kids, ‘You will be successful with a college degree,’ but we know that’s not always true … and who’s going to build our houses or fix our cars or fix our plumbing?” (The Seattle Times). No one wants to do the hard labor jobs, which leave many openings. When a student graduates from a four year, college it is harder for them to find a job. Martin Ford author of The Rise of The Robots states, “The upshot of all is that acquiring more education and skills will not necessarily offer effective protection against automation in the future” (The Rise of the Robots, XV). Ford argues that no matter if you get a higher education you are still in danger of losing you job due to automation. That there is no need to get a higher education if some jobs are going to be replaced by automation. Claudia Rowe writer of Education Lab IQ states, “For this reason, Renton now defines “college” as any kind of education or training post-high school, and Leviton notes that many living-wage jobs — medical assistant, for example — do not demand a four-year degree” (The Seattle Times). Claudia Rowe states Medical Assistant receive a well earn wage but it does not need a lot of schooling to achieve a Medical Assistant certificate/degree.
