Reflection Of Teaching Styles In The Color Of My Way

Superior Essays
I have learned that no one does everything the same way. What may work for some does not always work for the other. Teaching styles are different but I feel like that is what makes this profession so great. We all teach differently (and similarly, too); we see how to approach one standard, objective or lesson plan differently but then we collaborate and discuss different ideas. I feel like I have learned how to look from other teacher 's perspectives to see how to teach differently. I feel like this is beneficial to to profession because when working with others who learn differently, we see aspects that we are missing or changes we can make that will benefit students who learn differently, too. I have learned that others may have excellent …show more content…
The idea was easily adaptable and worked well. In addition, I know that I like to use the scaffolding techninique and this was even more prominent throughout my field study experience. Teaching students the material and then slowly giving them responsibility over their own work is gratifying. For example, when we were reading the novel, I would also students complex (non yes-or-no) questions and have them respond to the question and each other in class. With time these questions (and other elements of the reading -- like defining figurative language and interpreting meaning) were turned over to the students. This relates back to the World Cafe Literature Circle where students were required to ask their own questions during preparation work time and encouraged to develop these questions by thinking of the "bigger picture" (like how is the government in the novel similar/different to the actual Dominican Republic government). I directed the students to ask questions like we asked in class when reading the …show more content…
I truly like to see students progress with what they learn and then encounter new challenges in their learning process that helps them continue that progression. I also feel that I will meet my goals by accepting constructive criticism from others and considering how those changes would effect my classroom and growing as a professional. I would also consider how my classes and lesson plans progressed throughout the day/class period. I would reflect on what went well and what I could change (I thought of a few efficient ways to help with the World Cafe Literature Circles) and then consider any ramifications to changes I could or would make. There are constant improvements to be made so that students are able to learn at their maximum potential and I can strive to be my best form of an educator and professional. As for expectations, I will listen to my principal 's constructive criticism and consider the feedback for my classroom and how the feedback would effect the structure and student learning. I would also strive to meet the standards set in place by Wisconsin 's Department of Public Instruction and strive to meet each standard at least once throughout a semester. I would also strive to meet the teaching standards; while I feel that the educational standards are important, I also believe that

There are many things that I know I need work on during my teaching. When I teach a lesson I am going to make many changes. First, I am going to revise time management and ability to conduct a lesson. I realize that this will come with more practice teaching; however, I think I can do a much better job. When I teach, I also would like to incorporate more thought-provoking questions into my lessons.…

After last week’s writing, I found myself in quite a fog of insecurity. Thankfully the most recent installment of YITE brought me back to the sunny side of teaching philosophy. Reading about the art of teaching was rather inspiring even. The quote from the text, “approaching instruction in a variety of ways to provide multiple paths for students to both learn the content and develop the skills of the curriculum is artistry (pg 147),” caught my attention. Often in my life I have gotten the impression that some people consider the position of a teacher as that of merely a figurehead, an adult to put in front of a group of kids to keep them occupied.…

Educating Esme is a story of a teacher’s thoughts, teachings and life before and during her first year teaching in Chicago. The book begins with her talking of her mentor and how she taught her to love the children and jump in and take charge. Madame Esme as she likes to be called lands a job at an enter city Chicago public school, she begins the time before school starts with ideas for a story book festival that gets shot down and with a battle for her “not legal” name to be her formal name at the school. She bumps heads with the principal in this area, yet he wants her to be at his beck and call, calling all hours and doing tons of extra paper work for him. I love that she has so much excitement in setting up her room and making it her own, she goes into such detail about the boards she makes and how proud she is for that first day.…

For me, I have had many different experiences, good and bad, that have helped and shaped me into the person/teacher I want to be and how I should teach it. I had multiple good coaches and teachers over the past years of my life and they are the ones that have influenced me the most. I am the kind of person that has to watch how it is done before I can do it. I can’t just read a book and remember everything. I am a hands on kind of person and this is one reason why I felt like Physical Education would be a good fit for me.…

My second goal is to innovate my teaching according to my students needs. I believe that teachers have to innovate their teaching periodically. Children learn differently and get bored easily, therefore I have to incorporate activities in my curriculum that keep them engage. Also I want to incorporate parents in activities in order that my students feel they are in a safe environment. My third goal is to offer my students a quality of education.…

Living in a culture that places much emphasis on education, it's no wonder that teacher tenure is constantly debated. Many advocate all for or all against teacher tenure, but few are fully aware of what teacher tenure, and its effects, has in store for teachers as well as students. Teacher Tenure is a complicated debate with many facts and viewpoints. However, the most logical arguments are not seen in the all or nothing stances of many professionals. One of the strongest arguments in support of teacher tenure takes the protection and security of teachers into account as well as the stability of students and their learning.…

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon a quote by Robert John Meehan: “Your life as a teacher begins the day you realize you are always a learner.” Throughout the course of this semester, I have learned a monumental amount and grown immensely in my journey towards a career in education, and, as the quote expresses, I have realized that part of being a teacher is continually adding to this development. I believe this ceaseless pursuit of knowledge to better ourselves as educators is an imperative aspect of this profession because for every new bit of information we acquire and the more we develop, the more our students benefit. With that in mind, each experience, whether it be good or bad, I have drawn from this course and field experience has contributed…

After years of working in the Social Services field, I felt that my heart needed a hiatus from the gut wrenching circumstances in which many of the families I assisted found themselves in. I could no longer bear the responsibility of a child’s life in my hands due to the bureaucracy and conditions that plagued many of the people in my caseload. The stress of such an endeavor was affecting my health. I still wanted to be helpful and to try to make a difference in peoples’ lives but not at the expense of my own. I took some time off to reflect on what my next step would be and to be more available to my youngest child whom was entering the third grade at a different school.…

Standing in front of a crowd, nerves shaking as I, a soon to be junior in high school, have decided to conduct for a community band. I had stepped up since the band was going to have a "year off" and had been working for several weeks with a small group of students. I found the venue, rehearsal hall, times, and the arrangements. The students and myself had put in long hours and the day had come to perform in front of the community. As I stepped up, I saw the nervous faces that I taught and smiled, turned around and introduced the band to the community.…
