Did you know that fifty percent of all marriages end in divorce? Why is this though? Notably it has something to do with our preconception of sex before marriage is completely okay and has no negative effects. Also, there is the problem of infidelity, adultery, cheating; or whatever type of branding you would like to give it. It’s no surprise to hear that a lot of people will struggle with infidelity throughout their married life, but that does not make it right regardless. If you say that you are going to stay with someone through sickness, health (etc…) and you do not, then you probably should not have gotten married in the first place. Besides the fact though, infidelity can happen to anyone - male or female - at any time, for any reason. Besides the obvious they were sleeping with the opposite gender, you have things like the fact that Garp cheats on Helen with three people while Helen only does it with one, not that that makes it any better. Along with that they did it for completely different reasons. Firstly, Garp’s infidelity comes from pure lust, nothing else. He cheats on Helen even though he says, multiple times, that she is absolutely stunningly beautiful. In other words, he isn’t cheating on Helen because he doesn’t love her, he obviously does. He is cheating because he has lust and is unwilling to let it go. Whereas, on Helen’s side, she starts to feel like her husband doesn’t give her enough love. Therefore, she goes out searching for it. If you look at the way that she treats her relationship between her and Michael, the student she cheated on Garp with, she does not really do anything to stop
