The World According to Garp Chapters 12 and 13 Infidelity has been a reoccurring theme thus far into the book. The word infidelity simply means that you are unfaithful to your spouse or sexual partner. Both Garp and Helen are guilty of committing this sin over and over again. In previous chapters we have read about Garp’s several affairs, such as Alice Fletcher to just name one. In this chapter, however, we learn about Helen’s affair with one of her students, Michael Milton. Gender roles play a huge part of how they handled their own infidelity and their spouses infidelity.
