Max Beckmann was German artist of many talents not only was he a painter, but he was also a sculptor, printmaker and a writer. He was labeled a expressionist by historians even though he didn 't believe in it he rejected both the idea and the movement. Being born into a middle-class family in Leipzig, Saxony. From his youth he pitted himself against the old masters. His traumatic experience of being in World War one really played major role in his paintings and the stories behind them. Especially his famous paint called “Lido” which seems to look like a simple painting of a simple day at the beach. Taking a better look at the picture you’ll realize that it has a deeper meaning that Beckmann is trying to portray to the audience. In Fact the person looking at this painting wouldn’t believe if they were told that painting …show more content…
Beckmann purpose of the painting was to send a strong and vivid message not just only to Germany but to all of Europe to show the effect that the WW1 had not only on him but all sorts of soldiers, from all sorts of countries and backgrounds who survived the it. I believe his hope was to inspire people to not to repeat that traumatic era that his generation had to face over nationalities and petty reasons. The painting did serve it’s purpose to help realize the pain and suffering of WW1 veterans but a couple years later the same dramatic event was repeated by Max Beckmann very own country Germany which caused the traumatic events that happened in WW1 to be tripled in WW2. This painting is very important to Historians because it shows a first point of view of the effect WW1 had on soldiers who actually survived it in imagery oil canvas that multi

My favorite exhibit was in the BYU Museum, “To magnify the Lord: Six Centuries of Art and Devotion”. This exhibit was full of paintings, and artwork representing the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The religious artwork in this exhibit displays beautiful narratives of Christ’s life, and his ministry. All of the paintings in this exhibit relate back to the Savior, and they really emphasize the greatness, and the mercy of the Lord, and many of them portray events that occurred during his life. In this exhibit, I really like the painting by James T. Harwood, “Come Ye After Me”.…

Marc Chagall’s painting of the Prophet Isaiah is very dramatic. In the center, the painting depicts the moment when a seraph purifies Isaiah’s lips with live coal. In the Bible, Isaiah focuses on his “unclean lips” from speaking sins in the past and how those sins would make it impossible to speak the word of Yahweh. To make it so that he could receive the gift of utterance, the seraph purified his lips (Armstrong 42). This gave Isaiah the ability to purely convey the words he will be asked to speak and if it had not happened, it is quite possible that Isaiah would never have been able to spread the word as was necessary for the prophet.…

Stories are essential to native literature, they communicate history, tradition and moral lessons and have the potential to define a person’s relationship to their past. Such stories are present in Kitamaat, BC, traditional Haisla Folk stories about the stone man and the B’gwus or sasquatch are widely thought of as false or a fable to teach a lesson to children. However, within the novel Monkey Beach these stories are all true and have a profound impact on the character’s lives. The native scholar and lecturer, Thomas King, believes that “stories can control our lives” (9). Eden Robinson, author of the fictional novel Monkey Beach, implements the B’gwus stories within the novel to relate the myths that a character believes in, to the various…

When I was young in Mastic Beach, we spent Saturday mornings on the porch eating pancakes made by mom and naming all the birds that flew by. When I was young in Mastic Beach, the scent of paint lingered on dads clothes as he taught me how to make the images in my head appear on the canvas in front of me. The clay he brought home already sculpted into figures and applauded no matter how unrecognizable they actually were. When I was young in Mastic Beach, we made frequent trips to the beach at sunset and stayed well into the night, not caring about the mosquito bites that littered our bodies.…

Half Caste child (1957) This artwork depicts a young white girl in clinging to an older black man while a black woman is crying in the background. This painting has a historical theme because it shows a child of mixed decent during a time when this was a bad thing. The lack of care she seems to get from the older man helps show this. This painting was painted after the Australian assimilation project when aboriginal people of mixed decent were to be assimilated into white society wether they wanted to or not.…

A View Of The City This composition stands out among other works by Robert Birdwell of this period in its fiery colors and absence of recognizable elements. This piece have bright colors that grab the attention of the viewers eye. It looks like it could be many different things all inside of one painting like one big galaxy universe. For Example, it has blue looking buildings sitting next to a lake house depending on what angle you look at the picture by. The painting is based off the city of Knoxville and it describes the emotion throughout the city.…

While at the Carnegie museum I saw a couple of paintings that caught my eye and made me take a deeper look at them. The very first painting that did this was Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints Leonard, Jerome, John the Baptist, and Francis. This painting is by Nicolo di Maestro Antonio d’Ancona. It caught my eye because even though it was created in during the Renaissance; it still has a lot of details, beautiful colors, and meaning. The throne that Madonna is sitting on, and the entire wall behind her is beautiful.…

The painting I chose was Frank Stella’s “Flin Flon VIII”. It is an acrylic piece on canvas characterized by a mixture of curving and straight lines that interlock, vibrant colors, and an emphasis on the circle in the middle of the canvas. A huge quantity of negative space is present in the painting and the painting emits a smooth texture. The painting is one hundred and eight inches squared, making it one of the largest paintings in the San Diego Art Museum. Its size projects itself on the viewer overwhelming them with its color and size.…

Anna Maria Florida It was a hot, humid Sunday in Anna Maria Florida. We were going to the beach with the 3 other families that went with us. It was about a five minute walk from our house we rented to the beach, which really felt like five hours because I was really excited. Once we FINALLY got there my friends and I decided to take our shoes off and find a perfect spot in the white hot sand to set up of chairs and umbrella. We took our clothes off because our swim suits were underneath and sprinted to the clear blue ocean.…
