The old man he meets just so happens to be the man that originally wrote that story Rory took credit for. The man let Rory know it also, and tried to make him feel as bad about it as possible. It could’ve been all fine with Rory doing this, ha the original author no long been alive or across the other side of the world, but he just so happens to be nearby. Rory was speechless. He never thought this was going to happen. He attempted to escape further conversation with this man, but he knew he was in trouble as soon as the old man said, “It’s about a man who wrote a book and then lost it, and the piss-ant kid who found it.” Rory’s heart had just sunk to his stomach when he heard these words leave the old man’s mouth. Cheating or stealing from someone is never the answer because no matter what result is rewarded, the fact that it wasn’t honest will leave anyone with grief and discontent. Taking shortcuts may get someone to their destination, but it will always give them dissatisfaction, knowing that the work they did wasn’t done the right and proper way. If Rory could’ve just told his wife from the beginning that the novel she found on the computer wasn’t his, but one he found, all of the grief put on him would have never happened.
