The Words Movie Analysis

The film “The Words” is about an author, Rory Jensen, who is still trying to make his name known. Rory doesn’t know where to turn to after his many failed attempts at getting his first book published. He just so happens to stumble upon this novel that had never been seen that had been lost and no one had seen it except for the original author himself. Cracking under the pressure from his wife, Rory decides to write this novel under his name which will come back and haunt him for the rest of his life. Rory’s decision will forever cause him grief and discontent because no matter what award he wins and how many awards he wins, that novel will still never be his and he will always have that in the back of his mind. The old man he meets just so happens to be the man that originally wrote that story Rory took credit for. The man let Rory know it also, and tried to make him feel as bad about it as possible. It could’ve been all fine with Rory doing this, ha the original author no long been alive or across the other side of the world, but he just so happens to be nearby. Rory was speechless. He never thought this was going to happen. He attempted to escape further conversation with this man, but he knew he was in trouble as soon as the old man said, “It’s about a man who wrote a book and then lost it, and the piss-ant kid who found it.” Rory’s heart had just sunk to his stomach when he heard these words leave the old man’s mouth. Cheating or stealing from someone is never the answer because no matter what result is rewarded, the fact that it wasn’t honest will leave anyone with grief and discontent. Taking shortcuts may get someone to their destination, but it will always give them dissatisfaction, knowing that the work they did wasn’t done the right and proper way. If Rory could’ve just told his wife from the beginning that the novel she found on the computer wasn’t his, but one he found, all of the grief put on him would have never happened. There’s more satisfaction in getting something accomplished without the help of another person, and no possible guilt to be put on anyone. When the right thing is done, everyone is
