The word listless has a negative denotation and its literal definition is “characterized by a lack of interest, energy or spirit.” In the context, “listless” has a negative connotation when Patrick Chamoiseau refers to the breeze when the little boy enters the real school. By using the world listless, Chamoiseau uses personification to describe the breeze.
