“The Women in Poe 's Life” After extensive research on Edgar Allan Poe, I discovered that he had many women, alongside his lovers he was married once and engaged to one other woman before his death, I will do a personal analysis of all of his experiences with women to come to a conclusion as to whether or not his relationships with women affected his works. Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 19, 1809 to Eliza Poe and David Poe. Elizabeth Arnold Poe, Edgar Allan Poe 's mother, was 18 during her first marriage and six months later she was widowed. In 1806 she married David Poe, Edgar 's father. After two years of a five year service he wanted out, the only way to do that was to get in contact with his foster father, John Allan, as his lieutenants condition to help him get out. Frances Valentine Allan was Poe 's foster-mother who took him in after the death of both of his parents. John Allan and Frances Allan were not able to have children so they adopted Poe, they were very wealthy which allowed Poe to grow up with a very comfortable life. Up until the day that Frances died she remained the emotional support for Edgar when he and John Allan had a rocky relationship. At the age of 20 Poe met his seven year old first cousin Virginia Clemm, his real father and Virginia 's mother were siblings. He ended up moving into their home for a period of time.
