Imagine being betrayed by a best friend, and in the process, landed your child in the hospital. As shown in the movie, The Wishing Tree, Clara and Wallis have been best friends for 16 years. When Claire’s mother was pregnant, Wallis’ parents took them in and treated them as family members. However, when it was time to choose between a man and her best friend, Clara chose the man. Jamie’s accident could have been prevented if Clara told Wallis about the “magic man” as soon as she discovered their association.
It all started with Clara’s drive back to Atlanta, she saw a mysterious man standing by the road, and was immediately mesmerized by him. She turned around and decided to stay longer in Savannah, possibly to get to know the man she saw by the road. One day, Clara found her best friend’s son, Jamie and Alexa, having a picnic with a stranger in the middle of the woods. She was acting like a teenager who just met her first crush! She even conveyed her disappointment to Jamie, when Thomas declined their invitation to a party. Clara told Jamie that Thomas was not coming; moreover, she did not tell Jamie that it was okay, and do not think about looking for Thomas. As a result, Jamie, not knowing he was about to do something wrong, went into the forest to look for Thomas. Because of the storm, Jamie got injured from a fallen tree. Had Clara told her best friend about Jamie’s involvement with Thomas, things would have been different? They could have invited Thomas over to their home; that way, the children do not have to go to Thomas’ house where they were unsupervised. Wallis cannot be faulted for feeling betrayed, especially when Clara decided she was not going to let Thomas go to
