“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.” I have found this quote from Otto von Bismarck very relevant while studying case of Daniel’s Pelka death. We could think that reports and inquiries following death of Victoria Climbie will put more light into importance of partnership working in protecting children from abuse. Sadly, lessons were indeed provided but not learned. My question is how many children have to suffer horrendous abuse before partnership working will become effective? How many children have to die before professionals will realise how vital is their role in protecting children?

It is obvious that police in this area should undertake mandatory training regarding to safeguarding children and adults. And maybe alongside with teachers form Little Heath Primary they should undertake training in using common sense?
While analysing SCR I have been appalled to learn how many times CLYP, which is responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of children in Coventry has failed. And when I was reading CLYP’s plan for 2011-2014 (Appendix) I didn’t know whether to ‘laugh or cry’.
Firstly CLYP has failed to meet number of their own objectives (highlighted in Appendix) in relation to ensuring well-being of children.
Next failing is equal to those made by school and police- poor and lack of record keeping. SCR reveals that records were kept occasionally- outcomes of key meetings held in relation to domestic violence and decisions made during those weren’t recorded as well as involvement of CLYP in response to majority of domestic abuse incidents. Record keeping seems to be a big issue in vast majority of organisations despite of the fact that as stated in Co-operating to Safeguard Children (2003) ‘’ Well-kept records are essential to good child protection …show more content…
Age increase vulnerability to abuse due to fact that children due to their physical size don’t have enough physical power to defend themselves also fact that they are not able to speak for themselves for various reasons and high level of dependency increase their vulnerability.
