Because of Winn-Dixie Summary

This story was mostly about Opal. Opal wants her friends and mom back. In this story she learned an important lesson that teaches you to always be aware of someone's pathological fear or else you might lose them forever. She also learned that you can not hold onto things that want to go.

It all started when Opal goes to Winn-Dixie Store and sees a stray dog. It was racing around in the store knocking down produce and having the time of his life. Then he jumps on the manager and the manager threatens to call the pound. Opal speaks up and says “that’s my dog!”

During the summer Opal and Winn-Dixie do many things together. Their daily routine is they Go down to Gertrude’s Pet Store and Gertrude likes Winn-Dixie so Opal gets a job. Sweetie Pie Thomas also likes Winn-Dixie so she invites them to her birthday party. “The theme is pink!” Later that summer Opal makes buddies with Miss. Franny Block and Gloria Dump because they also like Winn-Dixie.

In the end Opal is reading a book when she gets a plan about having a barbecue and everyone is invited.

This was my favorite part because it is hilarious how Miss Franny thought Winn-Dixie was a bear. The most important character in the story is Winn-Dixie because without him Opal would not have friends, a job, and she would not have known 10 things about her mom. An important scene in the text is when Opal has the barbecue. It is an important scene because she is actually going to be more mindful about Winn-Dixie after he gets lost in the rain. And we all know his pathological fear is thunderstorms! If I could ask a question to Kate DiCamillo it would probably be if the mom was ever going to come back. I would ask that because Opal really misses her a lot. I would rate this story a B because it good story, but it could be a little more exciting. Overall,

It is eleven o’clock on a Saturday morning in the mid 1980’s, my younger brother and I are sleeping peacefully in our beds. We are suddenly awaken by a blast of music coming from the downstairs den. I quickly jump out of bed and run down the hallway bumping into my brother who has the same destination as I. We both race through the living room, the dining room and past my mom in the kitchen then down the three, blue carpeted stairs to the large den. My dad is sitting on the edge of his leather, rocker recliner with his 1974 Fender base guitar playing along with the song, “Dixie Chicken” by Little Feat. The music was turned up so loud no one could talk or hardly think.…

Little Rock is a memorable moment of history, not just for the Civil Rights Movement, those inspired, or the publicity the town received. It became a memorable moment for Elizabeth Eckford, the girl who faced the violent and aggressive crowds alone, terrified without being able to show it. Years later it would also become significant to Hazel Bryan who thought nothing of it at the moment but a means of entertainment. In this novel the author portrays the events that occurred in Arkansas in 1957, and what some had to endure for years as a result. David Margolick is the author of this novel as well as four other novels.…

An individual’s perspective on the world is influenced by other people because everyone sees the world in a different way which to them is considered the right way and so they want other people to see it in the same way. The short story Red Dress – 1946 by Alice Munro is a story that focuses on a teenage girl and her problems about prom, her mother and being popular. In the beginning of the story the readers can tell straight away that the protagonist’s goal is to be popular and fit in with her peers and while doing this she looks at the world with three perspectives which she took on from three different people, her mothers, her best friend Lonnie’s and Mary Fortune’s. When the story first begins we get to know a little about the protagonist and her best friend, Lonnie. Since he didn’t have a lunch, Miss Caroline offered to give him a nickel as long as he brought one tomorrow to pay her back.…
