The Environmental Services Department was established by the San Diego County in 1988 to protect the environment and to provide all San Diego residents with properly disposed municipal solid waste, along with an environmental free of litter and illegal dumping. In addition, the Environmental Services Department is organized into three operational divisions, which are: (1) the Waste Reduction and Disposal Division (WRAD) manages the waste reduction, refuse disposal, fee booth operation section, franchise administration section, solid waste code enforcement program, and field operation which takes operations at the Miramar Landfill; (2) Collection Services provides weekly refuse and recyclables waste collection; (3) Energy, Sustainability, & Environmental Protection Division (ESEPD) develops and manages programs relating to energy, sustainability, and environmental protection sections that protects public health and the community (Environmental Services Department, …show more content…
The Environmental Health Division has seven programs that they are closely managing. They are: (1) Vector Control Program is staffed professionals that closely monitors mosquito control, West Nile virus, Lyme disease, and other plague information; (2) Food Safety manages the overall food protection programs which includes food safety inspection, restaurant sanitation inspections, food facility plan checks, and many more; (3) Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS); (4) Ocean Water Quality Monitoring Program routinely monitors coastal marine waters for bacteria contaminants to provide bacteriological quality of the water to other public health agencies; (5) Solid Waste Program; (6) Certified Unified Program Agency/Hazardous Materials Program; and (7) Recreational Health public pools and spas handles complaints and reports of illness related to water recreational facilities and the compliance of public pools to safety structural standards (County of Ventura Resource Management Agency,
