The amount of technology that surrounds and impacts our everyday life is astonishing and is an issue that has raised a lot of questions today. Is the seemingly constant access to cell phones, WiFi, lap tops, iPads, etc., negatively impacting our ability to maintain focus and have meaningful relationships with the people in our life, or is it just the opposite? To say that it is merely one way or the other would be an ignorant response. The wide availability of technological devices can have hindering affects on meaningful human connection and the ability to be focused and “present” in various contexts, both on a physical and energetic level. However, with the way our society is structured today, there are ways in which this constant access to technology can be beneficial.
The amount of technology that is present in our lives today can and does obstruct the quality of our relationships. I have two younger brothers, they each have their own iPad, and they’ve both proven to me just how captivating technology can be. Skype, texting, Facebook, phone calls and even Snapchat can be great tools for contacting and communicating with friends and relatives that live a ways away. They can also help to bring common interest and connection between friends and family that might not have otherwise been there. I’ve had many memorable moments with my parents, siblings, friends, and coworkers all thanks to some kind of technological device.
