The theme in both “The White Umbrella” and “The Medicine Bag” are very similar in many ways. In the story “The White Umbrella” the theme is to be happy with yourself and your culture. This is the theme because in the story the narrator was worried about what other people thought of her, which led to her defying her mother to get an umbrella that she thought was beautiful. However, when they were in a car accident on the road, she realized that her mom was more important than the other people’s opinions about her.
