The War of the Roses were a series of civil wars fought in Medieval England from 1455 to 1487. This 32 years was a bitter struggle for the English Throne, which was waged between two branches of the same family, the House of York and the House of Lancaster. Both are descended from Edward III. Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, and Christoph Probst were members of the White Rose, they were the group that opposed Hitler and his regime. Hans belonged to a Hitler Youth group led by a man who had once belonged to more liberal youth organizations. In 1935,this man renounced those liberal values and dissolved the cell he started in Ulm. Hans Scholl became disillusioned with the Nazi movement after attending a party at Nuremberg , this was the turning point. When Hitler came to power, he promised to restore Germany’s military and economic strength. He encouraged the students to visit his former cell at Landsberg Prison. And in 1939, the German troops invaded Poland, this was Hitler’s first step to dominate Europe. By the spring of 1942, more than 300,000 German Jews had been forced into emigration. The students questioned the Nazis ideals and ridiculed their grand public displays and rallies. In the oppressive Nazi regime of 1942, they forced deportations and police searches of private property. The White Rose leaflets were a rare public expression of dissent. Kurt Huber joined the White Rose in 1943. He was a Philosophy professor he criticized the government during his lectures, without saying anything concrete about it.
