Sudhir meets Ms. Bailey in her office which is rundown, but she rules with power. Ms. Bailey asks Sudhir whether if he’s going to study White people while studying Robert Taylor. Sudhir is kind of confused because most of the people living in residence are black. But when Ms. Bailey asks that question then Sudhir realizes that she meant people in the institutions outside the homes. Sudhir begins to understand Ms. Bailey’s point. Sudhir and Ms. Bailey speak more regularly in her office. Sudhir rides around with Ms. Bailey one day, who says she is going out to accept donations. Ms. Bailey refuses and tells Clarisse she should stop using drugs, then ignores her. Sudhir is confused and helps Clarisse back to apartment. Sudhir realizes that Clarisse’s children haven’t eaten in a long time., and goes out to buy them snacks. But when Sudhir returns, Ms. Bailey scolds him for helping Clarisse and her children. Few days later Sudhir attends a meeting Ms. Bailey holds for residents of the building to air their grievances. People complain about the Black Kings, the parties they have and the messes they make. Ms. Bailey notes the problem and requests the community members make. Sudhir asks Ms. Bailey about her philosophy of running the project building of which she’s leader. She responds that, first things first, and her job is to get the things done. And then she can worry about the means employed to achieve whatever goal she had in mind. Catrina, Ms. Bailey’s assistant tells Sudhir that there are other facets of Ms. Bailey’s personality. One day, Sudhir is talking to Catrina outside Ms. Bailey’s office when a commotion breaks out in the building.
