Dear Mr. President,
I’m writing this letter to you to get to your notice about a very prominent issue that has been going on in every part of the world- Gender Oppression. This has been a problem for the past many years, but however, nothing has ever been done to change this. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India once said, “You can tell the condition of a Nation by looking at the status of its Women." However, a lot has changed over the years. Women are either killed as a child with the practice of infanticide or when they become a widow with the practice of sati. The traditional and customary practices of such extreme violence are often times aggravated by social pressures. Women have to think twice and face peer pressure before coming forward due to their lack of education, legal information, aid, protection, and inadequate efforts from the government to enforce the laws and keep them safe from any harm. A woman’s entire purpose of living is dependent on a man and they do not possess an individual identity. Their sole purpose is to serve as a child to their father, as a sister to the brother, as a wife to the husband and as a mother to the husband. Being born as a women in a society where women are objectified and considered futile, where women such as myself had no right to speak for ourselves and had to be a submissive to the opposite gender, I was forced to narrow down my opportunities to more stereo-typical options. On the other hand, I saw a whole new side of sexism when I moved to the United States Of America, it has broadened my view about …show more content…
Many of them are rational people engaging in behavior they understand to be acceptable but little are they aware of the harm their actions bring to the people of our country. To fix gender inequality around the world, it must be started at one’s own home where the parents must teach their child to respect and treat woman the same way they would like to be treated, creating awareness among the parents. At school by giving scholarships to girls, teaching gender equality as a part of their curriculum and children must be encouraged to choose a career that is future-oriented, irrespective of their gender and at workplace, by making gender equality a part of training, equalizing the salary for their respective job positions, regardless of their gender. We should also promote the NGO’s to eradicate gender

Inequality of Women Worldwide Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” In many places around, men are entitled to rights and opportunities that society often denies women; this inequality occurs for women in education, jobs, the community, and roles in their family. Society discourages women from receiving an education while society promotes males to pursue an education. In many continents, such as Africa and Asia, women strive for the ability to learn, develop, and obtain the same opportunities as men despite the consequences of beatings, sexual abuse and other troubling events that lie ahead.…

Indigenous groups throughout the world have one thing in common when it came to their fall; they all suffered at the hands of white men. Two indigenous groups that were infiltrated by western people were the Cherokee tribe and the Africans during Imperialism in Africa. During 1830 to 1831, the Indian Removal Act was enforced and more than ten thousand natives were relocated west of the Mississippi River. Thousands died before they could reach their new home. The reason for their removal of their ancestral lands was so there could be more space for citizens of the United States.…

In many countries throughout the world, women have been restricted from many activities and to the rights that should be theirs. Some of those rights may include: voting rights, equal pay, and the right to being treated as human beings, rather than sexual objects. Females are constrained because they do not have the same freedom that many males are able to acquire. Women have always had to defend for their rights in society. The woman is expected to cook, clean, and to care for the household because those are her "birth given" rights, according to some males.…

In “Cross-Cultural Connections, Border-Crossings, and ‘Death by Culture’” by Narayan we learn about the recent phenomena of dowry-murders. The official definition is “Any instance where the death of a woman is caused by any burns or bodily injury or occurs otherwise than under normal circumstance within 7 years of her marriage, and it is shown that soon before her death she was subject to cruelty or harassment by her husband or any relative of her husband for, or in connection with, any demand for dowry” (Narayan, 64). We see how a family can suffer from this first hand in the film “No Longer Silent” where a family paid their daughters husband a dowry, but after the marriage more and more demands made until they could no longer pay the husband and his family what they wanted. Due to the fact they couldn’t give a motorcycle to their in-laws her husband set her on fire in the kitchen. He was never found guilty in court and has since remained allowing him to receive another…
