Personal Narrative Essay: 'The Gingerbread Man'

The White Horse I just wanted the horse white. Not red, yellow, brown, green, or blue, but white. Maybe following the directions created a more soothing outcome, but try telling that to a stubborn five year old who just wants things done their way. Instructions blocked creativity and adults tell kids that uniqueness creates personality. As of that my personality and cleverness in Kindergarten ranked very high on the charts in my eyes. The Gingerbread Man, a classic tale where a little gingerbread man refused to get eaten by a baker, a fox, a cow and in the book my teacher read, a horse. Inside each of the pockets sat brown bears on a piece of laminated paper with each of the names of the students. A brown bear equaled a good bear for the day and it also means at the end of the day you earned a cute stamp on your hand on your way out. I always received the stamp from acting like a brown bear, but I have never been on the other side. The other side involved a awful red bear that stared right into your soul and made you endure the absolute worst, gut wrenching feeling in the world, hence a bad bear. She continued to march over and slowly reached for my bear and my cute brown bear turned into a taunting red bear that glared right at me. My mind started racing and my eyes grew watery.
“Was it all worth it to just have my horse be white?” It all scattered across my mind throughout the rest of the day. I continually kept looking at my red bear staring me down, and eating me alive. Eventually the bell rang and we all darted for the door to get our stamp. “Maybe she will forget or she will forgive me.” My mind kept thinking of ideas of a way to get a stamp. I inched closer and closer and then I noticed outside of the classroom waited my grandma and grandpa. My body started to get all tingly from joy and a huge grin crossed my face. What an amazing surprise considering not seeing them in a long time, because they live in Nebraska, while I live in Arizona. My grandma made eye contact with me and swung her hand in a huge
