The Whale And The Shrimp Analysis

The Whale and the Shrimp Once, long, long ago Shawn and his friends were hanging out in the sand yard. He and his friends didn’t get along perfectly, but they had fun together, most of the time. Bennett was being a fish-face (as per usual) since he was the biggest of all the shrimp. Shawn was the smallest of all his shrimp friends resulting in him being the target of most of Bennett’s teasing. It was on that day, a Tuesday in July, Bennett pushed Shawn over the edge. He had told Shawn his tail was small. Shawn decided he’d had enough of Bennett’s tormenting. He swam right up to him and slapped Bennett across the face with his tail fin. Consequently, Bennett was enraged. “You better swim for your life, you shark scum.” bellowed Bennett. And …show more content…
The five of them paddled into the cave, right up to Shawn. All of a sudden, a deep rumbling noise sounded and the cave began to move. The six shrimp shook in fear, not knowing what was going on. So this isn’t a cave after all, Shawn thought. “This isn’t a cave you nut heads, it’s a Whale!” Anna screeched. All of them tried swimming towards the entrance of “the cave” but failed. They struggled to stay all together, but managed to stay within a few inches of each other. Before they knew it, they were gliding down the whale’s tongue, thinking they were being digested. But no, the six shrimp shot out the blow hole of the whale. Screeching profusely, Shawn was in awe of what had just happened, the others were nowhere in sight as he flew through the salty air. He thought to himself that he should’ve hit the water by now but he kept drifting through the air. Within a few minutes all six shrimp were floating peacefully in space now as bright, gigantic stars looking down at, the place they’d once called their home, Earth. They knew they needed to learn how to deal with their anger towards each other if they were going to spend the rest of their lives living in close proximity. It took a lot of hard work and effort, but they learned. Over the years the six shrimp have been in many more arguments, fights and tussles. Therefore, they learned that even when you get angry or annoyed with anyone, violence is never the

The article by Cory Mathews, “Satellite tracking of a killer whale (Orcinus orca) in the eastern Canadian Arctic documents ice avoidance and rapid, long- distance movement into the North Atlantic” tracks the 90-day explorations of two killer whales. According to the Mathews, “In August 2009, we deployed satellite transmitters onto killer whales in Admiralty Inlet, Baffin Island, to (1) determine seasonal movements in the eastern Canadian Arctic and (2) distribution in the North Atlantic.” They did this by shooting titanium darts (tags) that would penetrate the dermal tissue upon contact. These devices would send 300 transmissions each day via Polar- orbiting satellites. The results showed that the killer whales would travel long- distance movement…

Joy Williams “Save the whales, Screw the Shrimp” is ultimately only partly successful because, while it has reasonable ethos and logos and is a good example of expository text, the author seems to place too much blame on the reader that today’s culture has all but entirely lost touch with what nature really is. Throughout the text, Williams uses a variety of rhetoric devices to make her writing more effective. Logos, ethos, pathos, style, tone, audience, and mode are used in a way that seems to give readers the impression that she has authority over them. In the source of “History and Humans/rest of nature”, it’s been said that humans respond to change and in turn feed the climate.…

Person vs society conflict is a dominant conflict that all of the characters must face throughout Whale Talk. The quote above is a demonstration of how each of the characters contrast from what society accepts, and therefore the conflicts that each of them face. The most significant conflict faced by the Cutter High School Swim Team is that of the closed-minded discrimination of students to their peers who are different. Because of the fact that there are characters who discriminate against others, T.J. feels as though it is not fair for the jocks to get all the recognition and attention.…

False Killer Whales versus Killer Whales Both Killer whales (Orcinus orca) and False killer whales (Pseudorca Crassidens) belong to the Delphinidae family. False killer whales resemble orcas because of the shape of their skulls, but the two species are actually not closely related (Baird, 2012). False killer whales are found in all tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate seas (MarineBio, 2013), usually in relatively deep offshore waters (Taylor, et al., 2008). In contrast, killer whales are often found in cold coastal waters (National Geographic, 2015).…
