The Wes Moore Summary

Improved Essays
The Wes Moore story is interesting and represents a great example of the second habits of the heart, An appreciation of the value of "otherness." I must admit, after the 9/11 tragedy I honestly had none or very little consideration for the “other”. Certainly a little shameful for not expressing or at least having an understanding of this habit of the heart, especially after watching the TED video of Phyllis Rodriguez and Aicha el-Wafi. I was also much younger then, with less experience and understanding of many of life's valuable lessons of understanding and appreciating the value of “otherness”. I had a time in my life where I felt like the “other”, there was a horrible tragedy with my brother who was involved in a vehicle accident which

Ahmad Choucair English 131-53 Professor Nowak February 16, 2016 Précis I The execution of Larry Wayne White is a crucial reference made by the author of the article, Christopher Hitchens. The author’s intention pointed that these assassinations were taken place during the time of the “death rows” and was considerably known as a conventional occasion. White’s death is just one set of examples. It portrays that significant passes of a loved one are not taken upon serious conditions and arranged deaths are demonstrated with little concerns.…

Ultimately, upon Steve's release from jail he witnesses a brutal and unjust murder of this boy right in front of his face. Carlos was someone that he created a bond with, and to see a friend be killed right in front of his eyes was something that must have been unbearable.…

Carl Wilkinson appears to be written as a sort of profile, or biography in a sense. It is pointed out multiple times about how David Grohl is the perfect rock star. More than anything though, this article describes the fact that he joined Nirvana and maintained his roots of simplicity where he still lived in a spare bedroom with a friend well after selling millions of records. It also talks about his success after the untimely departure of Kurt Cobain. Having been a fan of Nirvana, reading about Dave Grohl’s success was very fascinating.…

In Keith Beauchamp’s documentary, “The Untold Story of Emmett Till,” the dark past of a Mississippi town is brought back to the light of the public. The film discusses the seemingly harmless event which ultimately lead to fourteen year old Emmett Till’s brutal torture and death through the eyes of those who were close to the boy and his family. These events which are relieved by family members and eyewitness’s of that day, along with those to follow, are told to lead up to the unimaginably heartbreaking ruling of non-guilty for this young man’s two killers, J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant. The filmmaker formats the piece as such, as well as uses the emotional testimonies of family members and friends, to support the claim that these men were guilty in the first degree of kidnapping, torture, and murder. It can be concluded that Keith Beauchamp is successful in arguing his claim because of the excellent use of pathos in the testimonies of the family, logos in the claims…

I am pleased to recommend Shaun-Dae Clark for the Millennial Public Policy Fellowship with New America. I had the pleasure of teaching Shaun-Dae in her Scopes & Methods of Political Science Research class last fall, and I was impressed with her engagement with the course material, skill in articulating difficult concepts and literatures, and ability to grow and learn from the challenges she is presented with. In class, Shaun-Dae stood out early in the course as a perceptive and inquisitive participant in class discussion. She regularly raised thought-provoking questions that pushed the dialogue to a more reflective level, and her written work, both a literature review and an original statistical analysis, confirmed that she was a student with…
