Attempting to live by bread alone brings alive the ancient words of the devil “…command that these stones become loaves of bread.” (Matthew 4:4). What are the ways we try to make bread from stones? By investing all of our energy and resources into our jobs and career, family and social commitments. They things are not evil in themselves; rather they are quite necessary for us to be successful human beings. But it is bread of business, busyness and boredom. Yet, they are not our daily bread. They do not satisfy the deep hunger pains within for something more. Rather they perpetuate our eating disorder, starving us from receiving fulfilling bread. We need to acknowledge and accept this hunger as one that cannot be placated with one’s last …show more content…
If you have had a baby, a younger sibling or ever spent any time around a baby, you know how frequently he or she nurses. Nursing is not only his or her source of food but also a source of peace and tranquility. How do we receive this “milk”? Through prayer, fellowship, service and most importantly the Eucharist. It is the Bread of Life Jesus gave us in the incarnation. It is sacred Scriptures and Tradition enlightening our hearts, souls and minds to delve deeper into the mystery of Love that is God.
