Social media sites on the internet are full of deceit in many ways (Drouin et al 141). Misleading others can help people gain some sort of satisfaction because one can make up whatever he or she wants so the person following them online believes them. They can create something that is not real, for instance, pretending they are handsome by making a fake profile and posting a fake picture of themselves. Some people even trust the person who is lying to them. There is a term called being “Cat-fished.” This is when a person talks to someone online and starts a relationship with that person but comes to find out the person is not even who they say they are. The interesting part is the person who is the liar starts to believe they are the imaginary person they made up. “The lie becomes the person’s new truth” (loftus 88). The liar will continue to talk to this person online for whatever satisfaction they get from them. As soon as the person being cat-fished wants to come in contact with the liar, the liar will make up a bunch of excuses as to why he or she cannot meet. Internet sites allow one to build a fake profile online and gain satisfaction from the feed back they get from telling lies on their social media
