The theme of “Don’t Give Up The Fight” and “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” are the same because both of their themes are being different. In “Don’t Give Up The fight”, Ava is different because she is the only girl on the Morgan High track team. While in “The Watsons Go to Birmingham”, the Watsons were African American while the majority of the population was White. Even though both of these pieces of text have the same theme they show them in different ways. For example in the story “Don’t Give Up The Fight”, Ava is not taking much of a risk. The worst thing that could happen to her could be as major as a broken bone and bullying by the boys and coach McCoy. In “The Watsons Go to Birmingham”, the Watsons risks are major. The whole family could be shot or put in jail to name a few.

The theme of “Don’t Give Up The Fight” is being different. The theme is being different because Ava is the only girl on the Morgan High track team. This shows the theme of being different because she then has a lot of opportunities to be bullied by her fellow team-mates, who are all boys. Another reason that the theme is being different is because in the play, Sarah, junior and many others march for justice and equal rights but they end up being put in jail or being attacked by police dogs and fire hoses. This shows being different because the cops in Birmingham don’t appreciate the black kids for marching for their rights and justice and shows no mercy to put about 1,000 kids in
