The kids, Bryon, Kenny, and Joey, want to do explore because this is their summer vacation. At Grandma Sands everything is great, and surprisingly Bryon begins to behave. The three kids want to go see Birmingham, Alabama on a hot summer day, so they decide to go swimming, but Grandma Sands apprised the kids to stay away from Collier’s landing because of the dangerous whirlpool. This time Bryon isn’t the one who wants to break the rules and go swimming at Collier’s landing, it’s Kenny. Kenny nearly drowns when the whirl pool pulls him down, but thankfully Bryon is following the rules and is able to save him. Just a few days later, Joey goes to church with the neighbors. While Joey is away from her family she discerns Kenny waving from outside the church, so she runs after the boy. Soon after Joey left church a bomb bomb lit up the church in flames. The Watsons family was terrified that something might of happened to Joetta. The family rushes out of the house to the church in search for their little girl, in a state of confusion Joetta shows back up to the house pondering where everyone went. Kenny is sure the whirl pool had got Joey and is now out to get him! Kenny runs in fear back to the house and finds Joey and informs the rest of his …show more content…
Bryon, who has been on his best deportment, gets to go back and see all of his friends and doesn’t have to stay with Grandma Sands for the whole summer vacation. Everyone is still astound by the bombing, but Kenny is hurt the most even when he is home. He begins to feel guilty about not trying to save Joey from Collier’s landing because Bryon was gallant enough to jump in and save him. The whole family and especially Bryon are worried about Kenny because he hides behind the couch and is almost wholly mute to his family. One sad day Kenny loses everything and starts crying and begging for forgiveness about not saving Joey. Bryon calms him down and reminds him nothing is his fault he was just intimidated and perturbed about his younger sister and did not want to have anything he was thinking come true. Since Bryon reminds him of what a good brother Kenny really is he becomes the boy he was before the bombing. The family went back to normal, or what the watsons considered normal, and loved eachother very much each day
