Environmental Warming And The Environment

Improved Essays
Right now, earth is very different than it was 100 years ago, or even 50 years ago. The environment is rapidly declining due to excessive pollution and in May 1985, three scientists discovered a hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica (Ask 4). At the current rate of environmental degradation, five to ten percent species found in tropical rainforests will go extinct every ten years (Environmental 2). Humans are taking advantage of the earth’s resources with no concern for future generations. Their health and well-being will likely be directly influenced by the condition of this planet that is being ruined.

Recycling has become more popular in recent decades, but is it enough? Only twenty-four percent of the United States’ waste is recycled or composted, compared to the European Union’s forty percent. Another sixty-nine percent is put into landfills while the European Union puts almost half as much of their waste into landfills (Lacey figure 3). Although some landfills around the United States are creating technology to generate electricity from methane emissions, only about one third of the greenhouse gases are actually turned into electricity. The rest of the gases are either burnt up or not captured at all (Lacey …show more content…
In more developed countries the people are used to living materialistic lives. They always want things that will make their lives more comfortable. In underdeveloped countries, the people know how to live with less. They do not have the need to use up the planet’s limited supply of nonrenewable resources. If everyone were to live their lives modeled after people who live in poverty, the environment would not be declining at the current rate. Even without noticing, these “humble” people are helping future generations to have lives that will not be affected by the state of the

The Earth is currently facing detrimental environmental issues. These issues have been evident for decades; however, many people have continuously denied them to be problematic or even their existence entirely. While these critics have managed to get away with the rejection of these problems for many years, it is no longer deniable that the issue of environmental degradation is very real and in need of immediate action. Much of the population has come to understand this, and have executed a variety of modest attempts to increase environmental sustainability. However, these efforts have demonstrated to be of minimal effect in solving the large-scale issues directly causing the degradation.…

There is one planet that is inhabitable, so as humans we should do everything in our power to make the Earth sustainable. As many think recycling promises a brighter future for our planet, they are quite frankly being deceived. We are more likely to drive ourselves into the ground by funding recycling than to just leave the garbage to, quite literally, rot in its own filth. To some people recycling is just a lost cause, but to many others’ it has wedged its way into becoming a part of his or her lifestyle.…

As humanity has grown and expanded we have had an incredible, and arguably, irreversible effect on our biosphere. Between our intense levels of energy consumption and the pollution as a result of that use we are stretching the planet’s ability to correct itself it the limit. The Earth goes through different stages naturally, but the human race is torn between wanting to stop it, thereby keeping with what we know, and wanting to allow the Earth to right our wrongs. We are moving towards finding ways to reduce pollution and using renewable sources of energy, but only time will tell if we can do enough to continue to live in our current status.…

The GreenHouse Effect Many people ask themselves what is the Greenhouse Effect. The Greenhouse Effect is the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere due to the greater transparency of the atmosphere. While this is a good thing as the planet's temperature stays the same and gets warmer this is also affecting the environment badly without use even knowing. Global warming is not just a theory it is happening right before our eyes and is affecting the earth in countless ways and all we are doing is just helping it destroy the earth by polluting the earth even more instead of cleaning it.…

There are 97 percent of climate scientists that agrees that people on Earth has changed its atmosphere in a considerable way over the past two centuries. The results of this is due to the greenhouse effect that causes global warming (Lallanila, 2015b). But what is the greenhouse effect?…

As they say, “All good things come to an end”, and unfortunately the same can be said for this planet; one day it will end. As much as humans try to renounce this, we can’t really avoid or stop it. However, whether it will end due to human corruption or natural causes is out of our hands. But we are, without a doubt a contributing factor to the rapid decay of the Earth. Not only do we suck and waste a good sum of nonrenewable resources, but we also emit and excess amount of harmful gasses into the atmosphere.…

Today in the year 2015 there are alarming factors impacting the Earth. In the study of environmental science, defined as “the study of how the natural world works, and how our environment affects us, and how we affect our environment (Withgott, 2012)”, takes a deeper look in how we can improve our world by changing our ways of living. Environmental issues such as depleting natural recourses, harming ecosystems, using fossil fuels and population growth are major contributing factors in harming our environment in the 21st century. Natural resources stated by Withgott are sources people take from the environment in order to survive. Examples of natural recourses consist of air, water, wood, oil, and wind (p.3).…
