The War on Second Chances
I think that young people’s actions are the result of their parents/caregivers influence as long as they are living under their roof.. Parenting styles are known to have an impact on the development of children, so if their offspring are acting out, parental influences are usually the predominant factor.
As I was reading The War on Second Chances, I made a connection to Omar Khadr being taught that something morally wrong, such as ‘the enemy deserves to die’, is the right thing to do. As an influential child, it is easy to pick up on ideas from other people or the media, without being informed of the consequences. It made me realize that if we don’t inform people of the potential harm of their actions, they might

The narrative, “A Story of War and Change” by Reza Kiarash details the gruesome horror of the Iran-Iraq war through the experiences of the author as a paramedic within the Iranian army. What is immediately noticeable by the reader is how the author recounts his memory in short, staccato esque sentences. Evidence of such is provided when the author writes “ Yes, it is”. The lack of sentence sophistication helps immerse the reader into the atmosphere of the campaign the author is fighting in. As events escalate further within the story, the choppy sentences help create an aura of urgency for the reader.…

Revenge is one of the greatest evils. It is an aspect of humankind that can control the human mind. I don’t agree with the concept an eye for an eye, because revenge can be considered a domino effect. It only creates a cycle of retaliation. All it takes is one incident to duplicate into many more.…

After revisiting the opening technique, I believe that the author is giving the readers descriptive details about the past of both Omar khadr and Christopher Simmons because he wants them to build and image in their head, to be able to connect to both kids personally, knowing that this is one way to appeal to people’s senses and emotions. The author also wants the readers to understand what they had to go through. He is setting the mood of disappointment, and sorrow; the readers feel disappointed that these helpless children’s future is being ruined and there is not anything they can do, they also feel sorrow for the kids and (personally) i felt hopeless because I would have wanted to be able to help and I know that there is not much I could…

Academic dishonesty is an awful conduct that can be infectious. Actually, the vast majority of us have been impacted or watched something that was scholastically unscrupulous but since one individual did it, we obliged it. A few people may have allowed their eyes to meander onto their neighbor's answers amid an exam, obtained or utilized somebody's homework or duplicated a paper from the web. When somebody has been impacted or watched scholastic contemptibility it is interesting how speedy and simple they wind up following the group. In The Tipping Point composed by Malcolm Gladwell he concurs with James Q. Wilson and George Kelling "that terrible conduct, if left unchecked spreads among individuals that once, maybe a couple or three individuals started duping the system, other individuals who may never generally have considered dodging the law would join".…

Commander Claus Pedersen (compellingly played by Lindholm’s regular, Pilou Asbæk) leaves his wife and three little children in Denmark and sets foot in the Afghan Helmand province, where he orients a small squad whose purpose is to guarantee the safety of the population, often threatened by the vile Taliban. Their mission in the Middle East also includes locating potential suspects and exterminating them, in the case they’re confirmed as enemies.…

Throughout this semester we have been assigned readings in three books: The Rise of The Islamic State by Patrick Cockburn, The Myth of Martyrdom by Adam Lankford, and lastly Terrorism: A History by Randall Law. These three books all covered different fields of religion, while taking different approaches to analyzing the topic at hand. The differences these books had made for a large range of topics, but the similarities helped reinforce key aspects of the Religion 101 class. The three books not only covered general religion, but ancient/modern terrorism, mental aspects of terrorism and its relation to religion, and even certain branches of terrorism such as the Islamic State. These three texts had many differences in the topics they covered,…

Essay “If you want your children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders,” - Abigail Van Buren Parents are the reason for the illegal actions of their child. This is because some parents do not take the time to talk to their child, letting them know what is right and what is wrong, these children will later grow up into dangerous and immoral criminals. There are people who neglect their children and do not pay attention to them, and so the child will not know or learn what is right and wrong. This is why parents should be legally responsible for their children's actions because they are their child’s biggest influence, they should teach them, and penalizing will make both parents and children more responsible. When children are growing up they imitate or act like their parents, so when that parent is irresponsible, reckless, and cruel the child will most likely become that.…
