1) My initial impression of this work is that it is hard to read and understand. It was one I had to read twice to get what was going on.

2) Ther genre of this selection would be a novel.

3) The exposition of this selection of "The War of the Worlds" would begin with the narrators first view of the Martians. He was fascinated but scared. He watched as he hid in the tall heather. The martians are emerging from a pit. He has never seen anything like them.

The rising action begins with seeing the thin black whip like arms of an octopus, and then a thin rod joint by joint rise with a circular disk on top that spun. People were gathering in groups from different towns on different sides of the pit. Sunlight was fading when groups

The Martians have landed. He is curious about them but scared also. He gains courage from the other groups around the pit to go closer so he can see better. He is terrified when he sees the ray of fire and the green puffs of smoke. As he realizes that everything in the path of the light turns into flames and dies, he is stunned into stillness. After the quiet sinks in he realizes he is the only person left alive. He begins to wonder if the Martians are toying with him. He begins to run in fear.

6. The setting of this work appears to be in an area that is surrounded by towns. There are fields of heather growing nearby. There are trees and you are able to see homes in the nearby towns. The Martians have just landed and created a crater or pit. There are glimpses of the martian arms and what appears to be a tall device by which they see.

7) The arthor chooses to emphasize certain details to create a feeling of unknowing. This in itself creates a feeling of fear. As the situation becomes more intense the fear turns into terror . The details cause this in the manner in which hey are written.

8) The story is told from the point of the first person
